Panetta Institute 2023 Internship Program

Deadline: Complete application packet due by noon on Monday, April 3 emailed to andrea.lum@csueastbay.edu
When: August 13 - December 8, 2023
Academic Credit: 20 academic credits upon completion
Cost: all expenses paid, including airfare, tuition, food & housing
Location: Two weeks training at the Panetta Institute at CSU Monterey Bay; 11 weeks in Washington, D.C.
Qualifications: Must be a junior or senior at the beginning of the fall semester, 2023 and demonstrate superior academic achievement, excellent oral communication skills, maturity, and leadership skills. U.S. citizenship is required. Must be a California resident. Refer to the position description for all necessary qualifications. Graduate students are not eligible. Applicants must be willing to submit to a background investigation, have never been sanctioned under the California Code of Regulations (Student Discipline), be willing to live in group housing with other interns during the entire program, and provide a graded student paper demonstrating writing proficiency.

2023 Experiential Internship - Bioassay Development

Where: Merced, CA

This is a reality for Abb Vie’s Experiential Interns.
The Bioassay Development Intern will support the Biologics Analytical Research and Development (Bio-ARD) team. The Bio-ARD team is responsible for all aspects of CMC analytical development required to advance new biologic candidates into clinical studies.
In this lab-based role, you will work with a scientific mentor to investigate, develop, and optimize target-binding potency assays using laboratory methods such as Biolayer Interferometry, TR-FRET, and/or cell-based assays. The Intern will apply these methods to characterize novel protein therapeutics, including bispecifics, antibody drug conjugates (ADCs) and/or monoclonal antibodies to support development of new biologic drugs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- - Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Master’s or PhD in Biology, Chemical Biology, Biochemistry, or other related field.
  - Must be enrolled in university during the internship period.
  - Knowledge and hands-on experience with common laboratory techniques (pipetting, sample dilution, aseptic cell-culture technique, and buffer preparation).
  - Strong written, verbal and oral communication skills.
  - Hard-working, detail-oriented and demonstrated ability to quickly learn new skills.
  - Collaborative team player.

2023 Experiential Paid Internship - Flow Cytometry

Key info: The ABA Flow Cytometry Core Lab is seeking a summer intern to assist with the day-to-day activities of the lab in operation and research. Interns will have the opportunity to get hands-on-experience with state-of-the-art flow cytometry instrumentation, collaborate with multiple research scientists that visit the lab, and execute their own project using the available flow cytometry analyzers and/or cell sorters.
Minimum Qualifications:
- - Currently enrolled in university, pursuing a Bachelor's Master’s or PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, or other Biology related field.
  - Must be enrolled in university during the internship period.
  - Strong written, verbal and oral communication skills.
